Minutes for Tuesday April 12, 2011

- Talked with Dr. Friedman about funds raised for NOA and Haiti through "The Vagina Monologues"
- Elections were not held, due to low meeting attendance

**Current president (Michelle) will be graduating at the end of April, so Dr. Friedman will submit an organization renewal form for the Fall and try to gain more interest.

Tuesday March 29, 2011

- Budget hearings for the upcoming year on March 9th went well; just need to fill leadership positions for this group for Fall 2011-Spring 2012
- Elections will take place at our last meeting of the semester on April 12, so that names may be turned in to SGA and Mimi Fortune.
- Briefly discussed The Freeze Project
- Discussed printing performance flyers for "The Vagina Monologues"

Tuesday March 8, 2011

- Discussed "The Vagina Monologues" with Dr. Friedman, including making copies of scripts and other materials and discussed t-shirts
- Agreed to involve NGCSU Voices for Women in the Social Consciousness Coalition, which is a confederation with a purpose to facilitate cooperation among organizations whose missions focus on the promotion of human rights and dignity for all.

Tuesday January 25, 2011

- Focus: "The Vagina Monologues" performances
- Overview of what is entailed (auditions, beneficiary is the NOA domestic violence shelter in Dahlonega, script, rules/guidelines, places)
- Discussed one of the optional monologues about Katrina victims/survivors in New Orleans
- Can only show up to THREE performances between the dates of February 1 and April 30
- All proceeds donated (10% to the V-Day target country, which is Haiti, and the rest will go to the No One Alone shelter)

- Brought everyone up to speed about the DV Awareness Month Event, which will be Thursday October 21st in Shott Auditorium from 7-9pm
**Still waiting on getting the last of the logistics worked out on the film(s) and speaker

- Brought up Open House on Saturday November 6th

- Watched Batterers Will Kill: Intimate Partner Homicide and had a short discussion about domestic violence afterwards

**Plan to meet next Tuesday October 12th at 12:45pm in Dunlap 205, so we can watch Toxic Relationships and/or Date Rape/Abusive Relationships to see if we would rather show one of more of these films on Oct. 21st

- Domestic Violence Awareness Month Event: showing of the film Enough followed by a short discussion is planned for Tuesday October 19th at 7pm!
*Room is to be announced!
**We are also spreading the word to various profs to see if they will offer extra credit for attending!

- Discussed sharing a table with the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) at the Fall Open House on Saturday November 6th from 9:45am until noon in the Gym!
*We will be looking for people to help work the table.

- Michelle will also be following up with the V-Day people about the Vagina Monologue performances

- Love Doesn't Hurt (A Student-Led Support Group) meets EVERY Tuesday from 5-7pm in Dunlap 208! Please feel free to attend!

- Discussed setting up an NGCSU account for NGCSU Voices for Women that faculty/staff/profs can donate to

- Overview, welcome back, and introductions
- Decided to meet every other week on Tuesday @ 12:45pm in Dunlap 208 (So, our next meeting will be Tues. September 7th!)
- We will have officer elections at the Sept. 7th meeting!!

- Michelle is sending off for info on The Vagina Monologues (TVM) performances in September, so we can do the performances in the Spring.

- Handed out postcards about a volunteer training opportunity sponsored by the local DV shelter (No One Alone - NOA) on Sat. Sept. 11, 2010 at the Lumpkin Co. Public Library from 8:30am until 12:30pm
**This training will focus on Trauma and Homelessness; it would count as community service and is helpful for working with people, in general.

Domestic Violence (DV) Awareness Month Event in October - showing a film and doing a short discussion; will look into getting the film "sponsored" by a professor and into profs giving extra credit for attending!

- Michelle is interning with NOA and is starting up a student-led support group centered around trauma, abuse, and relationship violence (domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and dating violence). The focus of this group will be to provide support in a safe environment/safe space. Anyone is welcome, because who couldn't use a little extra support? (Keep your eyes peeled for fliers!)
