March 25, 2010

- Open House is Saturday March 27th from 9:30am until noon! Please come and support our organization and meet some prospective students!
- Briefly discussed the Women's Leadership Institute for one week this Summer; if you are taking Maymester/1st short session classes, this is during finals for these classes (If you are interested, please let Michelle or Mimi Fortune know ASAP)
- We will be participating in the Freeze Project to bring awareness to the horrors of human trafficking! Please recruit anyone and everyone you know! We need a big turnout for this to be effective.

- Women's History Month event on Wed. March 31st from 7 until 8:30pm in the Chestatee Room in Chow; this event will honor inspirational/outstanding women (students, faculty, and staff) from the surrounding Lumpkin County Schools and from NGCSU.
**Let Michelle know BY MONDAY if you are coming!

- Speaker night in the Fall; we will also collect old cell phones for NOA, because these are items that are especially useful for the women they help!

- Since we are interested in doing some volunteer work, NOA is doing a volunteer workshop for their bargain shop on Saturday April 24th; this is a great opportunity for helping others (and volunteers also get a pretty good discount)! Please let me know if you are interested in doing this as a group or by yourself!

October 15, 2009:

- We will be having a table at Open House on November 7 from 9:30am until noon. We'd love your help!

- We briefly discussed the Vagina Monologues, and it seems to be something that we are very interested in doing.

- Brainstormed/discussed ideas of some possible events that we'd like to do: Harvey Katz (a wonderful transgendered speaker); the double standard between men and women; some sort of "sisterhood" event or talk about why girls are so mean to other girls; a movie event for Human Trafficking Awareness Day, which is in January; something for Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April; an event with speakers from NOA and possibly some from elsewhere (have some ribbons, information, etc. available at the door) for Domestic Violence Awareness Month(October), which we might try to do in November depending on space availability; and a potluck dinner with a discussion on body image and media's influence on determining that, or on a different issue.

Have ideas? Feel free to post them on the group, shoot me an email, and/or bring your ideas to our meetings! :)

- Keep an eye out for a message concerning meeting times. Please reply and voice your opinion!
